Osteopathy

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathy is an American born form of medicine that combines up-to-date conventional medicine (medications, imaging, lab tests, etc.) with hands-on osteopathic manipulation.  It is based on the premise that if your body, and all it's parts, are in the right place and working properly, health is optimized while disease and dysfunction are minimized.  It also realizes that the musculoskeletal system and your organs are continually influencing each other.  Osteopathic treatments intend to unwind and release dysfunction by finding and fixing the root cause.

An osteopathic physician also known as an "osteopath" or a "DO", and, at least in the USA, is a fully licensed physician like MD's, but different in that they receive additional training in osteopathic manipulation.  We can take the same board examinations as MD's and often complete the same residencies.

To me, Osteopathy is ‘slow’ medicine - not slow in terms of how long it takes to work but slow in that it respects and follows the speed at which the body can truly and deeply integrate the changes made during a treatment.  Sometimes one treatment makes enough change for a person’s life to change and go in a more calm, better direction.  Sometimes real transformation takes time.

WHY OSTEOPATHY?

Because Osteopathy helps me to ‘track’ your issue back to it’s cause and in my 20 years of experience, that is what allows you to heal.

Because osteopathic treatments ‘unwind’ the years of strain and injury that we carry in our bodies.  We all carry old wounds – physical, emotional, psychological – and my approach ‘listens’ to those wounds and gives them time and space to unwind.  What relief!

Because osteopathy integrates the function and dysfunction of your musculoskeletal system with your nervous system and internal organs.  For instance, heartburn or constipation can be the cause of your back pain and vice versa.  Sinusitis can be connected to how well your skull helps clear mucus.  Pneumonia can result from poor rib movement that originally developed after a car accident.  It's all connected!

IS OSTEOPATHY RIGHT FOR YOU?

Here at the Center for Osteopathic Insight, LLC we bring together traditional osteopathic practice with more conventional medicine. In this way, we are able to tailor recommendations and treatments specific to you and your needs.

Perhaps you've tried "everything" in the conventional medical world and need a different perspective. And perhaps you don't really trust doctors and need someone who can spend time with you to work together to better understand the root of an issue and to find a plan to move forward.

Perhaps you need to slow down a bit, be given the time to listen to yourself (with my assistance) and find what's true for you.  All of this can be a reason to try osteopathy and it might be just what you need to heal and reset your life.

“I love that feeling where I am deeply and thoroughly trying to help someone.  It leaves me so satisfied. I enjoy trying to figure out the cause of the issue.  If we can expose and ‘see’ the cause, the treatment is easy.”
